Diamond Cutting

Diamond and Laser Cut Alloy Wheels are often one of the key components to the styling of a modern new vehicle. These alloys can set the appearance of a new vehicle off perfectly. However many consumers have no idea what diamond or laser cut finishes are, and why they can be more difficult to repair.

Diamond cut alloy wheels are becoming more and more popular nowadays. Despite their increasing popularity, it is not always clear how to distinguish them from painted wheels and how to refurbish them. To help you understand better what are diamond cut alloy wheels and how to look after them.

Stripping is a way of repairing alloy wheels that are heavilly corroded or have flaky paint, powder coatings, or a previous diamond cut finish. This is done by placing the wheels into an acid bath.

This can be done as a standalone procedure or as precursor to more intensive wheel cleaning and repair.

Powder Colour Coating

Powder coating wheels is a way of spraying wheels that have been thoroughly cleaned and prepared with paint using dry powder instead of liquid paint. The paint which is negatively charged is sprayed in powder form onto a positively charged wheel.

The polarity of the charges ensures that the paint sticks (like when you attach two magnets together). The wheels are then placed into an oven which enables the paint to bond with the alloy wheels. This process is repeated for the prime coat, colour coats and final lacquer coats.

The benefits for the consumer are that the process produces a nicer finish that lasts longer than traditional painting methods. There is also an additional benefit of a reduced environmental footprint.
